ASEAN Society of Echocardiography (ASEANEcho)
The leaders of the ASEAN Federation of Cardiology (AFC) has recognized the importance of formally uniting the users of echocardiography (cardiovascular ultrasound), the most widely available cardiac imaging modality under one roof, forming the ASEAN Society of Echocardiography (ASEANEcho). The society is a new chapter under the AFC.
Echocardiography is the most widely available and used imaging modality in cardiology. It remains central mainly due to its portability and relatively cheaper cost, and in many centres as the main imaging modality to diagnose cardiovascular diseases. The Federation acknowledges that there are wide variations in knowledge, practises and standards across ASEAN countries in the use of this modality. It is important as a region, we come together to understand the differences, help and share with each other our knowledge and experiences in order to achieve the goal in securing our relevance in contemporary cardiac imaging for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
A start-up meeting was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 12th April 2015, as the AFC secretariat has moved to Kuala Lumpur from Bangkok as of 2015. Nominated representatives came together to make this meeting a success, leading the path to the formation of the ASEAN Society of Echocardiography.
